  BIOGRAPHY

Randy Down, PE, CFEI – (Forenisc Electrical, Fire Cause & Origin, and Control Systems Engineer)

Mr. Down has over 35 years of experience in mechanical, electrical and control systems engineering for a wide range of industrial, institutional, municipal and commercial applications.  He has served as a lead design engineer, project manager, engineering manager, forensic engineer and technical consultant.  He is an author and contributing author for several nationally published reference books on environmental control systems and instrumentation as well as having presented papers internationally on the application of environmental control systems. He has taught adult education courses on the application of digital and analog controls, and was actively involved in the ISA (Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society) for over 25 years.  Over the course of his career he has worked for system manufacturers, as well as consulting engineering & architectural firms.  He is actively licensed as a professional engineer in eleven states (NC, GA, VA, PA, NH, DE, ME, NY, IN, WI, and NV) and certified through NAFI as a fire and explosion investigator, vehicle fire investigator and fire investigator instructor.  His forensic engineering experience includes over eight years of fire and explosion causation, electrical and mechanical systems analysis, product defect analysis, and some areas of accident reconstruction. He has served as an ATF recertification training instructor and as an electrical engineer in assisting the ATF’s National Response Teams on arson investigations. He is currently the president and principal engineer for Down Forensic Engineering, Inc. in Cary, North Carolina.
